Travel throughout a portion of Indonesia with local seminary students, sharing the Gospel with those who have never heard & discipling those who already claim Christ as their Savior.
Medan is one of the largest cities in Indonesia & home to many cultures, not too unlike many other urban environments in other countries, except that most people are Muslim and poverty is abundant. Some say that Indonesia is the best of the 3rd world countries, regarding poverty & infrastructure. The other cities & villages in Sumatra vary while poverty is usually much more evident & religious vigor is easier to see. Villagers are typically suspicious of foreigners but welcoming & friendly.
Sumatra is a Muslim context. Local orientation will help team members understand the culture.
Sumatra is hot & humid. Most housing will be without air conditioning. Mosquitoes are abundant & there is potential for illness from these with malaria & dengue fever being a possibility. Amount of physical activity will depend on location. Urban areas will involve walking & talking. Rural areas may require hiking extended distances. Medical care is limited.
Field supervisor should be made aware of any pre-existing conditions that could be affected by local foods/environment/physical demand of assignment.
