Johannesburg is a modern, urban city with many western amenities. Johannesburg sits at a high altitude south of the equator so the seasons are reversed from those in the States. The time frame for this job request falls during the beginning of spring to the beginning of summer so the temperatures will be warm but pleasant.
Islamic culture is very conservative so it will be expected for you to dress and act modestly. For women this includes wearing long skirts, and shirts that cover your shoulders with no plunging necklines. In some places you might be expected to cover your head. There are also many stores here in Johannesburg where you can buy skirts and headscarves. For men, pants are required for work and you should not wear clothing that shows American flags.
The applicant will need to be able to walk several city blocks at one time, and be able to go up and down stairs. If participant is unable to walk a lot or be mobile, this will hinder their ability to do the work. The health care and health care facilities in Johannesburg are exceptional.
Please note that if you have ongoing needs of medication management or counseling related to depression, anxiety, PTSD, or sexual abuse, these resources are generally unavailable and you should consider applying at a later date.
