4M/4F live in micro community connected to broader area ImpactGlasgow engages. You serve as catalysts for spiritual community in urban deprived area of Glasgow, building upon schools ministry & relationships started by ImpactGlasgow team, as you continue to take the Gospel to places it wouldn't ordinarily travel, seek to get into authentic relationships with not-yet-believers, make disciples who make disciples. Goal is to start small group gathering around person & teaching of Jesus that continues after you are gone. You will be enthusiastic in engaging in creative activities to engage folks with Jesus. You will be self-starters. If you need high instruction, this is not a job for you. We're looking for entrepreneurial type folks who are comfortable in starting things from zero. You will be comfortable sharing your story, the Gospel & life with others. You will be experienced in leading a Bible study. You will be physically able to walk a lot & lead an active lifestyle.
Scottish culture is postChristian. There is little to no understanding of the gospel and the Biblical Jesus. In Urban Deprived Areas, the population is about .14% evangelized. Scotland as a whole is less than 2% evangelized. The harsh terrain & weather make the people very hardened. People are hospitable on the surface, yet it takes a very long time to develop real, lasting relationships. Typically, this impedes the acceptance & spread of the gospel.
You will be staying with one other person in a furnished flat (apartment) in the area you are doing ministry. It will not be large, but it will be in area of people you will be ministering to.
City of Glasgow is hilly, wet & windy. He/she must be able to lead physically demanding lifestyle. You will be walking a lot! You will be climbing steps to your accommodation, you will be walking to & from school, park, local amenities, public transport, etc. You will be doing most of this in the rain, and mostly very chilly weather. You must be prepared to live & work in very uncomfortable climate & local landscape. Suggested you check with local health department on immunizations.
If volunteer is unable to lead a physically demanding lifestyle. There is a lot of walking in wet, hilly environment in city. Ministry will be active with long hours & physically demanding. If cannot keep that lifestyle pace, they won't flourish.
Equipment to Bring:
Important to bring warm clothing that will withstand rain & other precipitation, including waterproof jackets & shoes. Bring comfortable shoes that will be helpful in walking long distances. iPads/tablets will be helpful if you have one.
