COMPLETELY UNREACHED. Be the first gospel presence in the lives of women scattered throughout this megacity and unreached state. With a population of over 38 U.S. states combined shoved into an area twice the size of Georgia – this is a place bursting at the seams with lost women. Your mission will be to engage women you meet with the gospel. They are scattered in shops, markets, slums, alleyways and distant villages. You WILL share the gospel with many women who have NEVER heard before. You will also seek out and identify believing women to disciple and train them to be doers of the word and be disciple makers. This job is not for the faint of heart – you will get experience working within this megacity and in distant villages. You will have to be a self-starter. If you are willing to be stretched outside your comfort zone, wanting to make disciples and be greatly used by God to make an eternal impact, then this job is for you.
South Asian culture revolves on gender roles and dress is reflective of this. Life here is very relational and family centric. Be prepared for invitations into people's lives, including their home. Expect to share a meal with someone, but expect to work amongst your gender. Religion is also central to most South Asians. It is an easy topic so prepare yourself to make this part of every conversation.
South Asia contains various geographic contexts. From sea coast to the Himalaya Mountains, be prepared for a third world country where development is not the primary goal. Most settings will be high levels of pollution. The mega cities and rural areas alike face this issue.
Most likely an adequately furnished apartment or guest house will serve as your home.
Severe, untreatable asthma is very much a concern here.
Inability to navigate through crowded cities for long hours. Standing and walking much of the day. Severe allergies or history of severe medical conditions must be confirmed with field for approval.
Equipment to Bring:
Be prepared to "dress up" in comparison to your home culture. Guys will be expected to wear long pants and button down shirts and ladies will be expected to dress in national clothing. In some mega cities, ladies will wear more western influenced.
