The primary religion is a syncretized version of Catholicism. The population is 5,000 inhabitants. Approximately 96% are indigenous, and speak an indigenous language. About 60% speak Spanish.
Local dress is conservative western. There is a high poverty level.
The team member must be able to hike in mountainous terrain. It is high altitude. Many locals cook over a fire, so there is a lot of smoke pollution in the air. Dietary restrictions would be difficult to accommodate.
